State Look-Alike License Plates

Personalize these state look-alike license plates with your own message. Our state plate designs offer full color graphics and are designed to look strikingly similar to state issued license plates without being considered counterfeit (which is criminal). Embossing of the plates (or stamping) would more than double the cost of our state look-alike plates and we do not offer this service. However from a distance, you’d be surprised on how close the appearance is to actual state issued plates.
Our custom state look-alike plates are made of the highest quality aluminum (full sized plates .030” thick; motorcycle sized .040” thick) and should not be mistaken for cheap, silk screen, plastic plates. (The bicycle state look-alike plates are made from fiberglass reinforced plastic which makes them safe for the youngest users.) Our plates allow for photorealistic images to be placed onto license plates and are considered to be a superior manufacturing method over silk-screening because of the detail it provides. The plates are heated to over 400 degrees and the design is applied to the substrate as a gas rather than an ink or paint. They have a high gloss finish on them and they look fantastic. Since each plate is made individually, quality is always monitored and controlled for every plate made. The plates have a smooth, high gloss finish perfect that look great on your vehicle or mounted on the wall!
These 'look-alike' plates are not designed to replace the state issued plates that states require to be displayed. These plates are designed for use in states/localities that do not require a state-issued front license plate. Again, please
email us if we can help you in any way.
State Plate Display Requirements
(as of October 2006)
unchanged as of November 2008
We always recommend our customers check with local law enforcement before ordering a custom license plate to make sure the plate can be displayed on the vehicle legally.
All states require a rear state issued license plate. Some states require state issued front and rear license plates to be displayed on vehicles registered in their state. If you're buying a custom license plate for a gift and aren't sure if the recipient can put it on their car legally, this guide will help you. This guide will give you an idea of what states allow non-state issued front license plates.
THIS IS ONLY A GUIDE - THIS IS NOT DESIGNED TO SUBSTITUTE CHECKING WITH LOCAL AUTHORITIES. We make no guarantees regarding the fitness of any product for any state.
Here is a list of states that do not currently require two state issued license plates to be displayed
(as far as we know). You should be able to order a novelty front plate if the vehicle is registered in the following states:
Alabama
Arkansas
Arizona
Delaware
Florida
Georgia
Indiana
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisiana
Michigan
Mississippi
New Mexico
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Tennessee
West Virginia
While many states prohibit the use of custom plates to substitute for state issued plates, many of our frames can be used on state issued plates. Please make sure the frame doesn't cover the number or the registration sticker before ordering it to save on return shipping charges.
